When you were a kid did you have a hamster?

I did,

I begged my parents for months to let me have one and the answer was always no, until that fateful day when I asked them again and the “No” turned into a “We’ll see”

When you’re kids you know that “We’ll see” usually means a strong yes,

It was July, the school reports were due, so secretly I knew I was in for a ‘good report’ present,

One Friday I came home to a massive cage on the dining room table,

In there was a small water bottle, sawdust, a little home and one of those hamster wheels,

“I KNEW IT”

That night we went down to the local pet shop and I picked out a beautiful ginger and white hamster, I called him Terry (Sick name for a pet even if I do say some myself)

I loved spending time with him and when he inevitably passed away at the grand old age of 5, I was heartbroken,

What I missed the most was him on his wheel,

Just running and running to literally nowhere,

But it kept him and me entertained for hours…

Thinking about it though, hamster wheels are super common in business, especially if things are struggling,

It’s like running a marathon, getting exhausted, sweaty and out of breath but realising you are still at the start line, with a long, long way to go,
